What is Medical Weight Loss?

Medical weight loss is a comprehensive, scientifically driven approach to weight reduction, primarily focusing on using medications to facilitate the journey towards a healthier weight. Unlike traditional weight loss methods that rely solely on diet and exercise, medical weight loss integrates the use of FDA-approved medications as crucial components in the treatment plan.

These weight loss medications function primarily as appetite suppressants. They alter certain neurotransmitters in the brain, reducing hunger and helping individuals adhere to a calorie-restricted diet more efficiently. Medications like Phentermine and Semaglutide are particularly effective for individuals who have struggled with obesity or weight-related health issues, offering pharmacological aid to complement lifestyle changes.

It thoughtfully integrates prescription drugs, customized dietary plans, and physical activity, all under continuous monitoring from our healthcare professionals, ensuring a tailored and effective strategy tailored to meet your health and weight loss objectives.

Our medical weight loss program has 3 major phases:

Initial consultation to identify your target weight and discuss any medical history and previous attempts at weight loss. Dr. Prado-Wright will work with you to develop an individualized, medically-appropriate plan designed to get you to your goal safely and efficiently. During this phase, our team will monitor your progress on a monthly basis to make sure you’re progressing. Some of the medications we prescribe include Adipex/ Phentermine,  Wegovy/Ozempic/ Semaglutide, Contrave, Metformin, Topamax, and Zonegran.

The second phase begins once you’ve reached your target. During this transition, Dr. Prado-Wright will encourage you to take your physical activity to the next level, adjust your nutritional plan accordingly, and gradually reduce any weight loss medication.

The final phase focuses on long-term health and maintaining your achieved goals. After making the right lifestyle changes to reach your target successfully, your final goal will be to continue making the kind of healthy choices that keep the extra weight off for good.

Our physician will obtain a full medical history and perform a detailed analysis to determine the best treatment plan. This may include prescription medications such as phentermine to jumpstart your weight loss. We only prescribe safe, pharmaceutical-grade medications. Other medications we may prescribe include Adipex/Phentermine, Wegovy/Ozempic/Semaglutide, Contrave, Metformin, Topamax, and Zonegran.
We let you pick and choose which parts of our medical weight loss program to follow. Our initial fee includes a full medical evaluation and monthly weigh-ins. You decide whether you would like to include additional injections, supplements, or meal plans.
